I have kept fish for a long time and wish to start keep native fish

i have tried many times to find a suitable locations for a 10-foot minnow seine and found nothing (I was searching online, quickly found that would be useless ](*,) )

Does anyone here know of a good location in northern NJ to use a 10-foot minnow seine and a minnow trap, the fish i am after are the smaller shiner species (under 5 inches)

I think the location that i am going for should be a shallow river with large amounts of foliage on the shores, but if a location is good, even if it does not fit any of my preferences, please don't hesitate to post it, just as long as said location is in the Northern half of NJ, (No farther south than the northern tip of the Pine Barrens)

I think you may just have to get out and try various waterways like the rest of us. Might want to downsize to a 6-8 foot net for smaller streams. Good luck.

I used to drive around the general area of the raritan river and always thought that it looks nice, but always from the road, so I don't really have a suggestion.  I agree with Matt, though.  Hyper local is the way to go... if notthing else just to learn your local fishes... find a stream close to your house... or stop and check every stream on your drive to work (not literally on your drive to work, you will be very late... but on that drive).

...but if you are going to miss a day of work, I can't think of a better reason!!!   O:)

Thank you for your helpful suggestions, i was going to look for a river/stream/brook myself, but i did want to have some locations to choose from in case i couldn't  find one with the fish i am looking for (mainly shiners) but thanks for mentioning about the minnow seine, good thing i didn't buy a 10-foot seine already lol

An 8 foot seine is quite adequate for darters and shiners. Smaller even if you are ever working one solo.
