Last year, acting upon Nativeplanter's suggestion, I harvested some pickerel weed for my pond (this was on a trip I made with HMT321). I planted it in a small tub purchased from the dollar store, and there it stayed over winter, where it died back and I thought I had lost it. Bit with the warm weather it is coming back nicely, and I have moved it to my big pond. The point of all this is that I was at Home Depot the other day and looking at their selection of potted pond plants. They were selling this plant for $5.97 as "Pickerel Hyacinth"

I guess people won't buy it if they think it's a weed?
On the same trip I harvested a bunch of spatterdock-looking stuff, but it is not doing nearly as well. I think I have it planted too deep - the plants I oberserved in the wild were only a few inches from the surface and mine are about a foot under water. Could that be the problem? I haven't checked the rizhome for rot as I kind of don't want to uproot them when they are struggling already.
