I once found a small green sunfish in the feeder tank at a LFS. Not knowing exactly what it was at the time, I put it in my 65g to be sure it would have plenty of room until I could find a new home for it- I didn't want it to end up in somebody's 10g. And then I went on a four-day-long vacation.

That little sunfish was about two inches long, maybe a bit less. When I left, there were 12 glowlight tetras in the tank with it. When I came back, there were 3.

In a 30g, you don't really have any good options for a green sunny tankmate. I'd suggest leaving him alone unless you upgrade the tank.
