I went fishing at Watauga Lake in northern East Tennessee yesterday.   After catching a bunch of nice bluegill for the dinner table, we started catching a different species of sunfish.  They had much larger mouths than the bluegill, (hard to see on this small one) but still retained that dark spot at rear of the dorsal fin rays that bluegill have.  After looking at my Peterson Field Guide, I think they were possibly Greens or a hybrid, but wanted to ask you NANFA folks for some input.  The bigger ones had white edges to all of their fins, and a solid white pelvic fin with an orange edge.  Very attractive fish.

These incredible shots are the result of a night photo with an iPhone

Yes, green sunfish.

Find ways for people not already interested in natives to value them.

Greens can sometimes have a bluegill-esque pattern on them, but that's a pure green. I'm guessing you started catching these when you moved over towards the shore or a snag of some sort? They like to lurk around cover and ambush small things.
