This came in from a shocking trip a few weeks ago. I ID'ed as a redear, but it looked a little different from the rest. The shape and length of the pectoral fin stuck out the most to me. I think the differences are just due to variable appearance seen in many Lepomis spp. Any thoughts?

It looks more like a Redear than anything else but who knows what the history of it is it may have a small amount of some other Lepomis species mixed in from somewhere along the way. I'd agree that it doesn't quite look normal but it could just be some variation going on.

the red ears I catch here in Tennessee seem to be more silver colored than green. If I were to look at this photo I would not call it a red ear but when you have the fish in hand it is a different story. I am with the guy above me I think he monkeyed around with someone out of his own race.
