My favorite and most productive collection spot.  Nice, clean, fast flowing, clear and sandy with rocky structure and gravel bed around the bend.  (thanks Gerald!)

Also released

Was a productive day and a lot of fun!  First day I've ever tried kick netting....and then I broke the hoop...was a $12 Frabill from Walmart.  Picked up another today and I'm going to try to fix this one.  Won't hurt to have two!  Think seining could do even better but I've never done that alone either.  Might look into DIYing one small enough for one person.

Josh Blaylock uses a 4 foot seine solo quite a bit I believe. Ask him about it..

Is that an eel or least brook lamprey?  I've seen both there.  Chainback and glassy darters are in there too.

I'm impressed you got a jumprock with a dipnet - not easy to catch even with seines.  Yes that sunfish is a redbreast.

It was an eel. Caught the jumprock blind kick netting. Would love to find a couple more...

Saw what looked like chainbacks but couldn't get them...

Nice Roanokes, and eel, too. Looks like a fun spot for fin chasin'!

Yeah, I gave up dipnetting solo, it's not productive enough.

Get one of these: http://www.douglasne...57&cat=6&page=1

In 4x4, green color.  Go to a hardware store and buy two shovel handles to attach it to.  The 4x4 is very easy to work with.  You can easily kick-net by pitching it down and kicking to it, repeat to the end of a riffle.  It's also small enough to push through slowly water for minnows.
