Here is what I caught. I know there is a smallmouth and a green sunfish in the mix. A rockbass too. Not too sure about the others. Enjoy.

Nice catches and pictures. The first and last photos are redbreast sunfish. I think you already know all the rest.

Thanks guys, Hogue creek is one of my favorites because of the diversity of species. This time of year it is way to hot for trout which gives me the whole creek to myself. My only company are cows and the owners border collie. I've never kept anything for a tank, I need to look into the legality of taking stuff from a trout stream. I think if it is caught on rod and reel it shouldn't be a problem.

Gorgeous pictures. That Longear is a pretty one.

That's a much nicer looking creek than the ones I visited in NoVA.

That looks like black ich on those big minnows (shiners?). Might want to keep an eye on that stream, ich usually only shows up when the fish are under stress.

Yep,that,s more than likely blackspot. It is supposed to be a parasitic fly larvae. Seems to be on the minnows only. I didn't find any on the sunfishes. I am taking a friend who is an environment scientist with me next time I fish there to see what she thinks is going on.

Could also be cysts from digenetic flukes.

Yes that's a pretty heavy load of black grub (fluke cysts). Quite common, especially in late summer low-flow conditions. The larvae emerge from a snail and are negatively phototactic, meaning whenever a shadow passes overhead, they swim towards it to try to parasitize a fish. It typically isn't more than a cosmetic concern in aquaria since the definitive (terminal) host of the parasite is usually birds, so it never completes its lifecycle in captivity (unless you have a pet cormorant and use it as a fish disposal!). I've seen blacknose dace that felt "grainy" they were so covered in them. At that point it's at risk of killing the fish.

Cosmetically, I don't mind it nearly as much as yellow grub.
