Anyone here try a two way solenoid, that is normally open, but closes under power connected to an oxygen tank manifold and oxygen tank, which opens and releases oxygen into a fish tank if the power goes out?

Been using an inverter and deep cycle batteries wired in parallel to provide AC power for my 250 gallon systems if the power goes out but it's getting expensive to provide this to up to four high schools. Have read about the solenoid back ups but haven't found anyone that uses one.

It sounds like a great idea. Guessing you would want the smallest micro-bubbles you could get. Probably get a solenoid from Grainger or about anywhere online. Only downside versus the system you are using is that over a weekend you could lose a large part of your bacteria. http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-APS1250-Inverter-Charger/dp/B0007NOUBA/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1443182087&sr=8-7&keywords=charger+inverter   I have used these. Still not cheap.

Matt,

I was thinking of setting a dual line to both the fish tank and biofilter.

I use the tripp-lite APS 750 but as you say you can have a good chunk of change wrapped up in the inverter and batteries. Here's an article I did on mine:
