Saw this photo on another forum. Looks like some kind of parasite.

Looks like it could be black grub. A fluke cyst.

Aren't they usually internal and look more like pepper? Or are these something different?

They do tend to be singles but look to be just under the skin. I see them on a lot of the minnows around here in the hot part of the summer during low flow conditions.

I dunno ... if not flukes, maybe fish-lice?  mussel glochidia?
