This is a Shortnose Sturgeon right?  Coolest fish I've ever encountered.   Caught in the Hudson at my Yonkers spot, 15 or so miles upriver.  It took the guy's bait who was fishing next to me unfortunately.  Released unharmed.  Amazing creature.  The same guy caught one 2 weeks earlier

It was funny because when I was fishing there the week before, a guy told me that an older couple had caught a small Sturgeon the week prior.  So on Saturday while I'm fishing there an older couple showed up and I asked the guy if he had caught a Sturgeon a couple weeks ago, and he looked at me all confused and said no.  Sure enough he catches this big Sturgeon, and he goes "I caught a small one of these 2 weeks ago".... lol

Here it is.  So if this is Shortnose Sturgeon, they don't get much bigger than this.  So this might have been born in the 1960's no?

Looks like a shortnose to me. There are a few key differences you can read about here:

Looks like there is quite a historical record in the hudson as well. Cool catch!
