I originally identified this fish as a swallowtail shiner, as he was collected with my swallowtail shiners that I did id correctly. Now it is quite obvious he is something different. Would it be against the identification assistance thread rules to post a pic and ask for help?
Am I allowed to ask this?

Technically it would be against the rules to show the fish in a home aquarium and ask for an ID, yes.
Picture of a single fish in a photo tank = you will get a much clearer picture an be technically correct.
Picture of a group of fish in your fish tank in which you do not ask for an ID, but simply say "here are a bunch of my swallowtail shiners, but one of them seems to be different from the rest" posted in General Discussion... probably no problem at all.

Michael is giving you some pretty good hints here. The people here want to help, and your mistaken ID happens to everyone a time or two, or more.

I will try to capture the fish and photograph it when I get back home on Wednesday. I have been perusing this forum for months, and I really love this community. Thanks!

Definitely hop through the loopholes, but accidentally misidentifying a fish as something you can keep and bringing it home isn't the worst thing in the world. As long as you didn't just net a bunch of stuff and chuck it in your tank without knowing if you could care for it, I'm sure you'll get some answers.
I did the "here's a photo taken right after capture even though the fish is in my aquarium now" thing with a tiny baby sunny that I misIDed. Got a proper ID, and fortunately it's something I can care for.

Here are some pictures, I was in a rush so they might not be good enough. I am thinking creek chub, but I am no expert so any input is very much appreciated!

Sorry for the sideways pictures. Thanks for the confirmed id! Now to start on my outdoor pond for this guy once he gets big.
