Alright those of you interested in rarely seen fish behavior are in for a treat. My wife recently did some salmonid spawner surveys in the Russian River drainage, and she scored some killer footage of Pacific lampreys spawning. It wasn't on a GoPro. So my editing options were limited, but luckily she took a nice long steady clip. SO it didn't need much doctoring. Enjoy!

Neat. What was the one doing with the rock?

They were moving the larger rocks out of the nest.

Very interesting. Makes them slightly less gross!

First Isaac's snubby porn and now lamprey lovin'. Man, the forum has gone blue... :) Seriously though, that' pretty cool. To further Betta's observation, not only does it make them less gross, to me there's something kinda cute in the way they move those rocks.

That was fascinating, thank you!  Very interesting behavior, moving rocks.  I didn't realize lampreys did that!

Yes, this were big lamprey, but even the smaller species seem to excavate a bit for optimum breeding location.  We have seen this in the North Georgia mountains with little 6 inch lamprey clearing out little pits not much bigger than a salad plate.
