This was found recently dead with no apparent wounds (possibly a careless catch-and-release victim, or maybe a breeding male who was just done) in Mill Creek, a tributary of the Cohansey river in the Delaware river basin, on the New Jersey side. Full fresh water, in a lake.

It looks to be a fired-up male Chubsucker who couldn't stand up to the rigors of spawning. Cool find!

Be nice to the old guy... don't say "couldn't stand up to..." say something like "who gave his all for the next generation!"

Must be a Creek Chubsucker - that's the only chubsucker species in the Delaware R basin.

Big handsome fella! Depending on legality, I probably would have tried to take him home for taxidermy reasons.

Wow that is a nice big creek chubsucker, it would have made a nice catch on a rod and reel. Oh well nice genetics for the giant pool at least.
