Had a great day! Great temps, clear cool water... the best!!!

Got to take four of our local fish club members out to three streams in our area and exposed them to our local fauna. Rainbow, Fantail, Johnny, Banded and Orangethroat darters were seen (some kept except for Orangethroat as they are protected). We also saw Carmine shiners, Blackstripe topminnows, Brown nose dace, Green Sunfish, Central Stonerollers, Northern Hogsuckers... I know I'm forgetting some.

Two of the guys who came didn't make it to the third creek since they both traveled quite q distance from opposite directions. one traveled from eastern illinois and the other was from North central Iowa.

I'm hoping we get at least another new NANFA member in the near future.... Here's a couple pictures of some of the fish we saw..... and of the guys who came....

Thanks Izaac .....  I love seeing them. The guys with me couldn't believe it. It's also why I am so protective and trying to educate my neighbors why we don't want to dump yard waste etc in our creeks..... I'd love to be able to bring some home and breed them but the time isn't right, not until they're removed from threatened status.... Hopefully that will be able to happen in my lifetime.

Thanks Ken for the outreach work you are doing, and the breeding work you can do, you are an excellent example of what a NANFA Regional Rep can do!

I appreciate that Mike, and yet I always feel as though there is more I could/should do..... By the way, prior to going creek stomping I spoke to the club (earlier this month) about how to prepare to go out in the field, things to expect, and what we could hope to see. I will be giving a brief talk next month about the results..... Of the four guys that went out yesterday only one had ever done any serious creek stomping previously and that was "many years ago". So for three of them it was their first time.... The darters blew them away.... I wish the Carmines were spawning but not yet..... They all said they'd like to go again sometime in the future. One (the fellow with the walking stick) would like to go to Minnesota with me in a few weeks....

I had hoped to attend but it was Arbor Day weekend (sort of) and I am an arborist.  Other commitments.
