Ok maybe some stupid questions because I don't know anything about small bass and can't find anything.  I was just going for some little sunfish to keep in a 40g but I was pulling in 8-10" rock bass and they are very nicely marked from this pond.  The markings are very bold and across the top of the heads is black.  They are striking in a container of water.  What size tank do they fit in?  Alone, a couple, with something like madtoms or a sunfish?  Can they be spawned in aquariums?

I would not recommend trying to keep any fish as large as you are talking about.  Adult fishes do not adapt as well to tank life as a smaller, younger individual would.

Catch yourself a baby, maybe 3" long, and it'll adapt very well to aquarium life. An adult won't adapt anywhere near as well and will probably hide constantly. Either fish around shallow water with small hooks or try a dipnet or seine, and you should be able to get them, though it may take a bit to find one.

Kaliska down here in the white river basin we have Ozark Bass which look and act alot like Rock Bass but are smaller, and down in the bootheel they have Shadow Bass a neat looking cousin.
