Had a really good trip to visit a friend in D.C. last weekend.  The timing was supposed to coincide with the American and hickory shad runs, but the Potomac was blown out from all the recent rain, so I had to make lemonade out of lemons.

Ben, the shad were running about 2 weeks ago in Rock Creek, which runs through the National Zoo grounds.  I've since seen a lot of 'spent' carcasses washing downstream with all the rain.  Really good catch list btw.

Thanks!  I would have loved to see some big shad in their full spawning splendor.  Looking back at my cc records, I bought the plane ticket on Jan 5th and made my best guess for when the shad would be running.  Next time I should skip the flight and do a road trip so I can be more flexible.

Can ya asterisk the life-list for a one-eyed Channel Cat. Gotta be some kind of subspecies. Or maybe a hybrid with a flatfish...

Let it go. It got to keep my lure too, lucky bastard. Couldn't reach the hook with my pliars without putting my fingers into the danger zone.

What area of the Potomac did you find that flier in?  The vdgif website does not list them in the NOVA area.
