I took a trip out to California earlier this month and went on an awesome 3 day, 1000 mile road trip with my brother. We visited Death valley among other places and I got to see my first pupfish. It was amazing to see many fish in such a small, shallow stream. The last picture isn't a fish I know but we also used black light flashlights to look for scorpions at night and the results were spectacular.

Too cool. I'd love to see them some day. Desert life is some kind of interesting. That water is so clear it looks like those fish are floating a few inches above the ground, not swimming. Pretty funky terrestrial crayfish, too...

I wrote a thank you comment over the weekend but it disappeared, as i was not logged in.  A flaw in the system me thinks.

I really enjoyed the NANFA NV trip from a few years ago and will always treasure the opportunity to have snorkeled in those desert springs and oasis'.  Thank you Peter Unmack, our NV Aussie host.

Our convention talks were held at Death Valley and later some hiked out to see those "Fish in the Desert".  Sounds like an oxymoron.

I knew scorpions are illuminated by UV and your photo is wonderful.  Where and for how much did you get a UV flashlight?  It would be handy for other lookings as well.  It is odd that natural cotton illuminates too.

I picked up a couple on Amazon. After comparing cost and reviews I bought 2 of this model  http://www.amazon.co...ailpage_o05_s00. They are pretty decent, just don't ever and I mean ever shine a UV light on the bed in your motel room. Some things cannot be unseen

"I wrote a thank you comment over the weekend but it disappeared, as i was not logged in. A flaw in the system me thinks." I have done that a thousand times!

" just don't ever and I mean ever shine a UV light on the bed in your motel room. Some things cannot be unseen" Respectfully disagree, if it's bitin' me, I wanna know what the heck it is. And see the look on its many legged face when I smites it! If I'm gonna be scared and scarred, I'm goin' down swingin'! :P

The UV light also lights up urine stains brightly. When I shined it on the comforter on my motel bed it it lit up very brightly.
