I'm new to Microfishing and recently got some hooks from Tenkarabum.

I'm looking for some ID help on 3 fish.

The first two photos are of the same fish, which I think is a river chub (not creek, because of its mouth) but totally guessing here.

I think the second one is a sand shiner (?)

and the third one I have no idea!!!

I never realized how difficult it is IDing these tiny fish.  I also realize the importance of a photo tank now.

thanks!

That first one looks like a Nocomis chub to me. So River Chub could be right.

Southern Ontario has both river chub and hornyhead chub; not sure which one your fish is.

2nd fish could be sand shiner or spottail shiner.  3rd could be common shiner or striped shiner.

Which river are you fishing? I'm in southern ontario and find that hornyhead and creek chubs to be most common over river chubs.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Here are my latest conclusions:

1) river or creek chub (maybe not great enough photos to make a call on this one)

2) spottail shiner  (thanks Gerald,I looked through some other photos of the fish and sure enough there was a spot there)

3) Common Shiner (thanks again Gerald, after looking at comparison photos, they look like a match)

I see a spot behind the eye on your chub which says hornyhead to me, but I'm not familiar with river chubs.  Do they also have a spot behind the eye?
