Debating getting a dedicated rod for targeting smaller species, and can't decide whether or not to get an ultralite spinning combo or a tenkara rod.

I have both a el cheapo shakespeare 10' wonderpole as well as a smaller ultralight rod and reel combo. Each serves a good purpose, if you are just dropping hooks down sight fishing or in a small area, then the tenkara/cane pole method works best, but if you are casting out or jigging then an actual rod and reel is easier to work with.

I agree with jetajockey and use different rods for different situations - my favorite tankara rod is the kiyotaki 18, it is short, a little over 6' and very light (.6 oz) but you can feel the tap tap of a 2" minnow and a 3" shiner will put a bend in it
