Welcome MJ. You've done a better job than most, identifying yourself as being from the great state of Ohio in your profile. Try to be more specific, though, give us at least a county, if not a city.

I'm interested in your assertion that ODNR is spreading the VHS virus into unaffected territory in Ohio. Do you have any documentation?

Just last year about this time the ODNR took fish from Castalia ( a fish hatchery on lake Erie) and took them down to Lake Ann in Hocking County. I know this for a fact ‘cause I helped unload the fish. I questioned the ODNR about the move asking if they checked for VHS, both the hatchery and the fish people in District 4. No one looked!! And I know this would not be the only case last year that the ODNR did this. Different Hatcheries in our state bring up different sport fish. When the fish are ready they shipped all over the state. I also know that Senecaville a State Fish Hatchery gets it brood stock from the Maumee River when the Walleye come in to spawn. They did so last year. I do know that this year they SEEM to be more careful about VHS. We will see. Soon the ODNR will start shocking streams all over OHIO testing for VHS.

So then VHS is guaranteed to get into the Mississippi watershed also! You'd think that the other states in the watershed would be protesting this vociferously.

That’s exactly what I was thinking Ed!!! And I hope they have… Maybe that's why the ODNR has made such drastic changes this year with the capture of brood stock. We will see what they do with the fish now. MJ

You know now that I think about it I gave the wrong name of the lake in Hocking Hills area. The name of the lake was Rose Lake. Sorry!! Lake Ann is a lake back in my home town.

Wolfie800,
Then you know about the trout stocking... What do you think about the ODNR and the spread of VHS to Southern Ohio? Thanks for catching my goof about the lake thing. MJ

They stock that lake every year and I have caught a few from there. I really hope they start taking better precautions this year, it looks like they stocked over 80,000 rainbow trout, Trout release.

Is Barberton your home town? That is where I grew up.
