Caught him at a local river. I think he's some kind of shiner?

I can tell you with some certainty the fish in the photo is a shiner....

We need a clear, up-close side view. Without that, we can barely even tell if it's a shiner or not.

And I certainly hope you didn't just bring an unidentified native fish home and plonk it in your tank, that's a good way to accidentally capture native/illegal-to-keep species or bring in all kinds of pathogens.

He's 100% not an endangered species or an invasive as the area I collect in is fairly healthy. And I did quarantine him and a bunch of dace in an isolation tank before introducing them.

There are two big problems here, and I am going to suggest that we close this thread unless we can resolve them both.

  1. the picture provides very little information for making a realistic ID
  2. it sounds like you have already brought this fish home and the forum has rules about home IDs (please click here for the Identification Assistance subforum).

An area being seemingly healthy doesn't mean that the inhabitants aren't endangered or invasive.

And you're definitely going to need a better pic than that. If the thread stays open, go look at the pictures in the ID threads for an idea of what is needed.
