Hi, I have had nothing but issues trying to upload pictures on here. I have tried resizing and everything and still every image I try and upload on here says the file is too large. I dont understand since I know I have resized the images and they still dont fit. Is there any other way to put images on this site?

From my smart phone I reduce them to 25 % and don't have any trouble. Just my 2 cents. Hope that helps a little.

Contact me via the PM tool and I can help you.  Or at least we can figure out together what the issue is.  There is a limit to the total number of pictures you can up load here as a guest.  If you have previously loaded huge files, you may have used up all your space.  But regardless, I am sure we can figure it out, one way or the other.

Hey Tim,

 

Looks like Hero ran you a pretty good experiment and gave some ideas about uploading directly to the site.  The other option that works even better is to host them somewhere else and then just link them.  For example, as a member I have access to the Gallery Archive (but you could also use some other hosting site where you put your pictures).

 

Then what I do is go get the URL for the picture where ever it is hosted... for example this pic... http://gallery.nanfa...rcress wall.jpg

 

But dont just post the link (nobody wants to look at all that text)... click on the little polaroid icon above... and you get a place to paste in the same url... and then you get your picture right in the thread like this:

With so many different devices and operating systems it is frustrating to determine the variables.

 

One a side note i see that Michael's picture of his Jeep, he states is 3.34 MB.  To me that is a BIG file.

 I reduce all of my posting greatly from their original size, generally 5 megapixel, to much smaller, reducing them on average to about 25% of their size.  I base this percentage on if i will be doing any cropping.

 

I posted 9 Redline Darter photos on my recent Little River account and all 9 images only totaled 1.07 MB.  I ain't no master photog like many others but even then when sharing images on the NANFA forum massive files just take up lots of unnecessary digital space, which NANFA pays for.  Thus i reduce near all my photos for posting.

 

Another example is the Star photo leading into the series of July 3 postings.  The photo's original size is 2.15 MB.  After reduction it became 101KB which is a fraction in digital size, yet appears the same visually for this usage.

Casper's right about the file size.  It actually is a waste to post anything as large as those things posted in the experiment above.  The forum automatically downsizes everything to 800 pixels wide.  So anything greater than that is a waste (and he is also correct that it just takes up space that we pay for).  That's one of many reasons that I like hosting photos somewhere else and then doing the link thing (like I did with the big brick watercress darter above)... that actually takes almost no space at all.

Michael, I appreciate the reply. I think that is the issue since I have uploaded some pics in the past. I have quite a few more fish that I need to identify. Would it be possible for me to email you the pics or someone on here or how do I become a member?

NANFA membership is through the main NANFA website and is well worth the price.  You can click on the top of the page here where is says "NANFA Homepage" and look from there, or to check us out just pump here.  Once you have paid your membership send me a copy of your welcome email, and you can go over and start an account on the Gallery Archive (also clickable right at the top of this page).  NANFA members have unlimited storage on the Gallery Archive, and it is very easy to do the 'polaroid icon" trick I mentioned from pictures hosted there.
