Hi all!!!
My husband and I run a pond and water garden business. We are ornamental pond fish breeders (Koi and Goldfish varieties) and propagate aquatic plants and have a full service retail store. We have Hi-Fin Banded Sharks (Myxocyprinus asiaticus), Golden Orfe or Ide (Leuciscus idus) and farm raised Pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus), Yellow Perch (Perca flavescens), Shortnose Sturgeon (Acipenser Brevirostrum) and have in the past had Albino Channel Cats available. We ourselves have a couple of sturgeon of unidentified species that we have acquired over the years as well as 3 Albino Channel Cats, 2 at 12" and one at well over 2 feet long. We have many tanks and ponds ranging from 500 gallons to over 18,000 gallons so we are able to accommodate our large pets!!
In my younger years I kept all sorts of native fishes in aquariums and eventually ornamental ponds.Over 20 years ago I saw my first "pet" sturgeon, a sterlet (Acipenser Ruthenus) in Germany at a garden centre that sold pond supplies. I fell instantly in love and I have been fascinated with Sturgeon ever since!!!
I was hoping that by networking a little here I might find out if there would be a possible source for Channel Cats, Shovelnose Sturgeon and other aquarium suitable catfish that I might be able to import or if there is an existing Canadian source for them already.
I am quite happy to work out any of the paperwork and permits I would need and am just hoping to find a way to add to my own personal collection as exhibit specimens.
Anybody out there keep sturgeon or Channel Cats?
Cheers!!
Laura
