Hi everyone!

I'm a biology professor at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. I've always had a particular interest in outreach, ways besides classroom instruction to inform and inspire students of all ages to the biological wonders in their own backyard. I've visited the NANFA website in years past looking for quality images of native fishes for permanent exhibits my wife and I designed for local elementary schools, and am glad to have finally wised up and become a member!

These days I'm more of a documentary filmmaker than an exhibit designer, and am getting ready to undertake video projects that will require me to film native fishes, both in glass and in the field. I expect that each will provide lots of interesting challenges, and look forward to chatting with folks who are experienced with these critters in and out of their natural environment.

Cheers,

Alan

Welcome Alan -- glad to have you as a member at last!  I assume you've seen Freshwaters Illustrated?  Some of our folks have assisted them in fish filming, and there's quite a few nice videos on the forum (or linked to the forum) from our own members.

Hello Alan,

I'm the Georgia Regional Rep and I am located up here towards the Athens area.  But we are out in the field a lot all over the state, and I would be glad to help you in any way I can.  Let me know if there are any specific areas or species that you are looking for.  I might know a spot.

Wow, no, actually, I'm afraid I wasn't familiar with Freshwater Illustrated. That's a pretty cool organization, and definitely in line with two projects I'm currently working on (the first being a series of short videos on the history and biology of Georgia Southern's "Beautiful Eagle Creek," and efforts to improve its quality as habitat and develop its outreach potential; the second being about the 2011 Ogeechee River fish kill). I look forward to talking with people who have experience filming fish in water!
