was at a pier today and people were catching tons of skates. They were ranging from about 6 in Tl to 2ft TL. Here are the 2 bigger ones. I am pretty sure they are little skates. I will take a better look later. 20161127_175928_zpst2ov1rtv.jpg

The first couple appear at first glance to be winter skates, mainly due to the oscillated spots. The last 2 photographs could be little skates, but possibly just winter skates that lack the ocellus on each pectoral fin. I really used to dislike identifying this complex, if memory serves, we used to length them, then look to see if they were fully mature or not. There was a cut off where if fully mature, but under 335mm (or something like that), they had to be little skates.

Anyway, I would check into the winter/little skate complex and see if that helps. Where were you fishing?

It would be a cool aquarium fish if they maxed out at about 10" :)

I was looking at the pictures yesterday and thinking winter skate. These are 2 different skates. I didn't catch these but they were being caught in Brooklyn, NY.
