What is the difference between Ozark / MO Longear Sunfish - Lepomis megalotis and Northern Longear Sunfish - Lepomis megalotis peltastes?

Most obvious difference in pictures is the Ozark version has an orange stripe on its nape.  The Northern version often, but not always has a bright red spot on the opercular tab like a Pumpkinseed.  To my hand, the Northern is also rubbery like a green sunfish as you try to restrain it.  Northern does not get as big and is generally chunkier.  Northern also favors Pumpkinseed in many ways.

Funny, true certainly of greens, I haven't handled enough northern sunfish to notice. Great convention contest. Blindfolded ID contest. All fun and games until the tadpole madtom comes out.

You can still determine tadpole madtom by feel, at a cost.

I can even tell Northern Bluegill from most Coppernose stocks by feel.  Sometimes even Coppernose stocks from each other.
