Well, it had to happen sooner or later...

Erin and I snuck in a couple hours in the Saluda River at the park in Ware Shoals, SC. Air temp was in the 60s, water temp was chilly enough to keep wimps out (but not me and Erin) and the water level was the lowest it has been for this date in 76 years, so I really didn't know what to expect. Did quite well, but since this is a photography post, sit back and marvel at pictures too good to be mine!

VERY nice Seagreen pictures... they (like my Turquoise) seem to go very early in the year... peak colors could be anytime now with the air temps up so high.

 

In the background of the last darter picture, it looks like you have a whitefin swimming around, but the last picture has a funny sheen/reflection on the fish and I cannot tell for sure...

 

Based on picture 4 are we to assume the trick to getting good pictures is letting someone else hold the camera?!

Michael, I was wondering how Turquoises might be doing; figured they'd likely be under way in the color department, too. I don't recall ever seeing Seagreens colored quite this way what with the pearly sheen and white outlining of the scales. The green bars are usually more pronounced, too, I think.

I agree on that Whitefin call; had several in the bucket but no decent pics. Can't place that last one, though. Snout looks almost Hybopsis-ish. I do have the fish pretty snug to the glass in the belly region, which is throwing me a little, because I know it's not as robustly built a fish as it looks, but I can't make my mind work around/through that distortion.

And while it certainly didn't hurt to have Erin take my portrait, my shallow pride and years of futility in the fish photography department won't truck allowing her the least credit for those Seagreens.

I think "?" is also a whitefin shiner.  Nice photo work Erin!
