Here's yet another animal encounter in Alexander Springs. This spring was by far the best for unique animal encounters. There was a moment during the snorkel session when everyone had gotten out of the water but me. That's when I saw this guy emerge to grab a breathe of air. After that I followed him all around the spring head. During the end of the video he has gotten pretty calm about me following him and let's me get pretty darn close with the camera.

Neat little guy. I don't know what amazes me more about FL spring water; how clear it can be or how much there is of it!

They would be the perfect aquarium turtle if they didn't get so large...

Another great video. I got to see this one before but really enjoyed watching it again.

I saw some truly massive softshells when I lived in FLA. I almost wonder now if my memory is exaggerating their size.

It is definitely not an exaggeration. The other species there, the Florida soft-shell grows much bigger. I have a video of that species as well in the editing hopper. We came across a nice sized specimen on the Rainbow River.
