Even though I live in Western New York, I go to the Adirondacks every summer. Last summer I saw a strange darter buried in the sand, so I ran to get my dip net. I was to late though, as it left. The area I am in is far away from the rest, of New York where it has been documented. I know it is endangered in New York, so I was also wondering how to contact the higher-ups, and to get the word around that it's in my area.

It has been found in the Champlain Canal, Oswegatchie, St. Regis, Deer and Grass Rivers and in a couple rivers in Washington county which is on the eastern border of the Adirondacks. Check out the New York Natural Heritage Program for the eastern sand darter, lots of info.
