Hi all. I'm giving a talk at the James River Aquarium Society in Richmond, and planning a June 2-3 overnight to Blacksburg. (The talk is to go over the basics with the JR folks before the trip.) Here are some details from the club e-mail list:
About our May 2017 Program: “Fish collecting in Virginia.” Bob (Robert) Bock will present a program about collecting fish. Thought about that big trip to the Amazon but don't know what's involved in collecting your own fish? Why not start closer to home: at the next JRAS meeting, Bob Bock will help you get started in his new talk, “Fish collecting in Virginia.” He'll go over such basics as state regulations on collecting, license requirements, nets and other collecting gear, wading safety, and how to transport your catch home. He'll also survey the state's fish fauna, and give you an idea of fish that are suited to aquarium life, and those that are better left in the stream. Finally, if you like the idea of catching your own aquarium fish, bob will outline a trip that he and the JRAS leadership are planning for the weekend of June 2, to collecting colorful minnows, darters and other species in the Mountains near Blacksburg, VA.
