I live in Middle Tennessee and am very interested in catching a couple madtoms for my native tank. I have tried to look online for every resource I could to find what rivers/where in my state to look; since my time to collect is limited. I was just looking for any information regarding where I can find what Madtom species in Tennessee; and times of the year they may be active. I've seen a lot of informed people on here regarding madtoms so I'm hoping I can get some info!!

Go to Kentucky. Your state seems to be very unfriendly about collecting or moving fish. Check out the laws. Sorry to say it, but it seems pretty much illegal in Tennessee. Check with Casper Cox via PM. He for sure has spent the time interpreting your laws. Good luck. If Kentucky is an option try Josh Blaylock.

Hate to have to agree with DLV, but Tennessee is very unfriendly towards native fish enthusiasts who wish to do anything but swim with 'em or catch 'em on hook and line. Do check with Casper Cox, he's a Volunteer State resident and does know the rules well. Josh Blaylock is indeed a good option if you can make it to Kentucky. And be sure to mention how pitiful U of Louisville sports are. He'll love that...

Yeah, you're best bet is to get out of TN.  Basically, you cant keep fish you catch in TN.

Come to KY.  I'm planning on a fall-time weekend get together.  If you want to come sooner, let me know.  I can help you out with locations, and collecting.  I caught a super nice Elegant madtom yesterday.  It's a great aquarium species because they don't get super big, therefore they aren't a threat to eat other fish.

I hope to have God on my side, but I must have Kentucky.
