After the recent system upgrade, I am now getting an error ("use ctrl + scroll to zoom the map") when I try to use the scroll wheel on my mouse to zoom in/out on the map. For me, this makes the map frustrating to use since I cannot interact with it the way I normally do. But if this change was intentional for some reason, then I'll just have to try to get used to constantly pressing the ctrl key.

This was not intentional and I did not change anything - will look into this tomorrow.

Coincidentally just happened around the same time as the server upgrade - this actually was something Google did - version 3.31 of the Google Maps Javascript API was released - https://developers.g...script/releases

I had to make some changes but you should be able to scroll with your mouse wheel again. Let me know if there are any issues still.

I know I said this in person at the SFC but the information by watershed is really cool!

Yep - keep me updated if you notice anything else - I had to upgrade the database as part of the move and I am still testing.

Hmm...It has been about a year so here are some new updates

New functionality - Compare Watersheds.

Pick any two watersheds and it will tell you which species they have in common versus which species are only in one. Try it out and let me know any issues or suggestions for improvement.

Enhancement - Caching FishNet2 data

This is the primary driver behind this code release - FishNet 2 data is slow and their server has gone down twice in the past month. I am now caching the results locally. You should notice immediate improvement in most species page loads. I personally noticed a significant improvement for myself

NOTE: if you try and load something like Largemouth Bass or Eastern Mosquitofish it is still going to take some time. I may eventually build in a switch so that if a data set is over a certain size limit you have to opt in to see it.

Enhancement - All NANFA Data now displays

User submitted data had been hidden behind a verification system. However, it has not been an easy process to get verification done. Therefore, unverified records will now show on the maps alongside verified, but with a note that they are unverified. Once they are verified they will appear as normal verified ones do.

Enhancement - You can now see additional information for iNaturalist and NANFA records

example - slough darter. An unverified NANFA record and an iNaturalist record with expanded data

As usual, let me know any questions or problems or suggestions.

NIce! I actually logged back in to see if any work had been done with iNaturalist!

Just started using their mobile app over the summer (mostly for herps) and was surprised to find no NANFA project or group considering the FishMap site seemed like a natural complement.

I actually added more data recently too - you can now see iDigBio.org and GBIF.org data alongside iNaturalist.

Not sure how many NANFA people use iNaturalist - would be cool to have something like that.
