hi
i live in the uk and i'm thinking of setting up a large tank/ pond with viewing window for a coldwater species in my garden
i have previously kept large trops like snakehead, arowana and stingray but had to give it all up due to execive running costs and pressure from the rest of the family

as you can imagin anything small and peaceful isn't making the cut

i also keep crested geckos, a blue tonged skinkand a few mantids
we also have a tortoise and a little white rabbit as family pets

i'm hoping to learn all i need to know here as any foreign coldwater fish are subject to licence now but i have to check that lead a little further so i know exactly what is what

I'm guessing that a number of our natives are sold in pet shops in the UK. I'd be curious to know what is for sale on your side of the water?

the only ones without license I can say for sure are gars.
Channel cats are licensed as are bullheads
maybe a few sunfish but i have to check out what the legislation says about selling and keeping foreign coldwater and temperate fish
channa argus is under license and banned from import.
I know this since a friend has an import license for his betta buisness.

Why don't you get a PIKE? If you are stricktly against fish native to Europe, see if you need a license to keep a musky or a chain pickerel, or the Amur Pike that's native to siberia (I don't know where you could get one in the UK).
