Recently while looking for some pirate perch I happen to grab up a Eastern Mud Minnow. It appears to be full grown at 3.5 to 4 inches in lenght. I could not find any information on what thier main diet is, or at least a conclusive answer to what they eat as adults.
I did read this article on Breeding the Eastern Mud Minnow. But the fish this guy had were already eating prepared foods.
Tomorrow I will be getting some brine shrimp to try, but for now the only thing that I had was frozen bloodworms. My sunfish take them readily at only 5 days in captivity, but the Mud Minnow has no interest in them.
Any other suggestions as to what thier main diet in the wild would be? There are a bazillion small waterbugs and backswimmers in the location where it was captured. Would that be the best to try or is there something else.
Thanks for the advice

I've kept central mudminnows for the last few years. Never had any problems feeding them - bloodworms, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, mosquito larvae...its all good. Not so sure if this holds for eastern mudminnows, but I would assume so.
VA Tech has a nice page on the eastern - http://www.cnr.vt.ed...s/umbridae.html.

I will confirm that eastern mudminnows will eat pretty much anything you put in the tank. At least thats been my experience with them.

I had him eating yesterday. It started with live brine shrimp, although he was more interested in spitting them back out. He was offered several different foods yesterday and by the end of the day he was eating all of them.
Thanks for all the info.
