6' seine from Jonah's Aquarium.... $33

Two tanks of gas from Toledo to Chapel Hill... $100

Coolpix 4800 from Ritz Camera... $400

Two Ashy Darter in your photo tank by breakfast at your first site on your first day during your victory lap through the SE US...

DSCN8403.jpg

Priceless.

Pic looks like crap, had to use Corel Draw to resize. LOTS more to come. Hitting the Conasauga and Hiawasse tomorrow. Didn't end up seeing any bluenose this trip, but I'm at 78 species between the Duck and the Gulf Drainages. Should go well over 100 tomorrow. If not, we'll have to hop in Chick Creek and see if we can't get the other lampreys and one of them... uh... snail darter thingies ;)

I've now seen 15 darter species at the Shelbyville Dam on the Duck, btw (bless that lil' saffron that showed up this time). If you live within a reasonable distance and don't take time to go there, you're just silly.

Todd,

Were the cinerum at Shelbyville?

I doubt you'll get this in time and I'm not sure if I told Casper exact locations or not...but head lower in the Hiwassee than he has typically gotten in at. He has been snorkeling above RM 44 mostly. There is a TWRA ramp at RM 37 and a steeper one right above the confluence of the Ocoee River (RM 35.5?). More fish...enough said. The trout water is pretty much eliminated once you are downstream of US 411 so you get some diversity coming back up. You'll see more tanasi than you saw last year behind Caspers too  . Just remeber, gravel sand mix, avoid the macrophytes, half m/sec flow, half meter depth and ! =D> GILTS by the ton and packs of Logperch. Hope the Conasauga has warmed up some! The Hiwassee, well it'll be cold, but at least you have LOW flow with no generation during that lack of spring the SE is having. Catch a mountain shiner and get a picture of it!

yeah, rub it in dangit. I'm missing all the spring nuptial colors.

Just make sure you swing by the Emory. If the water's clear (and they haven't gotten serious rain in TN for a while, so it should be) you won't regret it.

cheers,
Dave

These two were at Henry Horton. But they were at Shelbyville too. I didn't seine at the <ahem> other place because I didn't want to crush the hordes of oyster mussels in the water willow where they occur ;)

Off into the wilds of el Snorkelmeister's back yard.

Move back out this way Dave :)

So would video footage of a Conasauga logperch flipping rocks be of particular special interest to anyone? ;)

I say we hold out until I get some blotchside footage flipping rocks after the Convention, then we have a <ahem> pretty good case.... and start flipping some birds lol.

Not in the literature, whatever. I was telling Casper about this situation, and he just looked at me like "Huh?" I had to explain again... Twice. lol

Somebody DID have a good day, indeed... Heck, if you're doing that well you probably got to play with antesella too (with all my snorkel time in the Conasauga I STILL haven't ever seen 'em)! ...but if you're going to the Hiwassee tomorrow you'll be right next to Spring Creek, and Seņor Snorkelmieister knows where the blotchies like to play :)

Guess I need to start watching the bigscale loggies out here to see if they do the same. I have a new mission for the weekend...

Dave
