Maybe you should get a copy of the Florida Collectors guide and or contact some of those Florida guys.  I think several live in the area but do not spend time here on the forum.

They hosted a wonderful NANFA convention about 10 years ago.  Brian, Charlie, Bill and the Dougs come to mind.  But the 2 Dougs are not in the area anymore.  One has moved North and the other is in the Great Beyond.

Names and contacts are in the Guide.

Tribs to the Manatee are fun.  Gators like to hide in hole hiding fish of interest to me.  If water low, then gators will have nowhere to get away so stressful for all.

Find ways for people not already interested in natives to value them.

Denis - there are many options.  Where in the Tampa area will you be based?  What type of collecting gear do you expect to have available (dipnet, microfishing, etc.)?  I know that you said that you are not targeting any specific type of fish but do you have any preference (scenery, type of water, etc.)?

I'll be on rocky point drive 33607. I,m not bringing my waders, just a long handle dipnet . Freshwater only  in a parklike setting that won't cause my daughter to bolt.

I have caught a variety of species at the Hillsborough River Park.  I will PM you with a few additional locations in that area.  Good luck!

I second Hillsborough Park.  We have seen 20+ species here including a on of exotic plecos.
