Im sure I will catch some of them, but my target is larval fish. I set out some traps this afternoon and I'm gonna pick them up in the morning.

Not really, but we did build them in our lab. This is out test r5un to see how they work. The fish are attracted to a glowstick in the center of the trap.

Pretty cool, I have heard of glosticks in minnow traps being very effective, I plan on trying it soon.

I'm interested in the mechanics behind this trap. From the photos I can't tell how it works.

Im gonna take more pics as I make more traps. Basiclly, the fish swim in through gaps between the four cut cylinders on the sides, look at the pic from the top of the trap and you can see them. The bottom has a nitex filver to catch the larval fish as the trap is removed from the water. The top has foam to make the trap float and a tube to drop the glowstick in.

Jan Hoover demonstrated one of these at NANFA 2000. At the protein sliver size, the fishes thusly captured are of limited interest to me :-)

Very cool...Do you happen to have plans for building one of those? Or better yet can I pay you to make me one?
One area of my local sampling surveys that has sorely been lacking in is larval fish. Something like this would work great.
