Hello Folks...I just joined this site and also became a member of NANFA . Thank You for allowing me to become part of this site. I am a Catfish Tournament Angler fishing tournaments nationwide. I support catch and release trophy size catfish. All the tournaments that I fish in are weigh in and release. I have a fully rigged 2015 Crestliner Intruder 2000 Catfish Edition Tournament boat with a 80 gallon live well with oxygen. In these tournaments we fish for blue catfish, flat head catfish and channel catfish. I am  also a Navionics Marine Specialist "Catfish". If you have any questions about Navionics mapping, recording sonar logs, ect, please contact me for assistance. Are there any other catfish tournament anglers on this site? Welcome aboard. I don't fish in tournaments but enjoy fishing for channel cats in the Shenandoah river.

Welcome riverman,

Not sure if we have many professional fisherman here.  But NANFA is a varied group, and has always made the most of that diversity. Look forward to hearing from you.

I like to fish for flatheads in the Ohio. Not as good as it used to be though, the commercial fishing to stock pay lakes has certainly taken a toll.

Welcome aboard! Very cool to have a pro Catfishman aboard! I certainly am no pro, don't even hook 'n line much anymore, but cats are one of my faves to catch when I do...

BTW, we do have many people who enjoy varied types of fishing in NANFA but the current trend is microfishing and species fishing. I think you will like our quarterly publication American Currents when you receive it (next edition is almost ready to go to press now); maybe you'd consider contributing to it sometime. I think you could certainly present something a little different for us, and no doubt fuel finny fantasies among many of us; especially the fish obsessed, wide-eyed, dreamy-hearted teens/tweens/young adults many of used to be and dream of becoming somebody like you (or the folks who keep the fisheries swimmin'.)

Yes sir! Trying to stop them pay lakes from taking those trophy catfish from public water. When I fish the Ohio River there are always commercial gear out there.

Is there an organization that is paying attention to this currently?

I know in Kentucky there is group of guys attending a upcoming meeting with their Kentucky DNR regarding the pay lake situation. Other than Facebook I do not know of any organization.  If interested please Contact Aaron Wheatley on Facebook. He is the tournament director for Monsters on the Ohio in Owensboro, KY.

Welcome aboard riverman1!

I'm a fisherman, but mostly for bass, musky, walleye and stripers, but I fish for just about anything that is willing to bite, from salmon and big trout in the Great Lakes to salt and brackish water species.  I've also done a lot of panfishing (crappie, sunfish and perch) both on open water and through the ice.  I am working on a life list and am interested in microfishing too, but I haven't done much of that, other than ice fishing.  Blues and flatheads are found in the Potomac and flatheads in the Susquehanna, but are considered invasive.  However, their populations are well established and they're reaching the 100 pound mark often, and found in my stomping grounds, so I'm interested in tangling with them, but have yet to do so.  I've fished bass tournaments in the past, but now only fish for my own selfish pleasure.

Navionics charts have most certainly helped me in catching more fish. I also use the Mobile App as a back up and you can always look at waters you plan to fish or boat anytime your out and about. Please contact me anytime if you have questions about Navionics. I am always willing to help out other anglers.
