I don't know if this has been posted before, but I stumbled across this presentation which is an extremely thorough overview of  the photography of fish specimens. - "Photography basics and setting up a 2D imaging station", John P. Sullivan, iDigBio Vertebrate Digitization Workshop, Berkeley, CA, April 4-6, 2016.

PDF of the Powerpoint available here and the recording here (requires Adobe Connect, starts @ 0:32:16 and ends at 1:15:00)

The following presentation looks useful as well - "2D Image Processing Software", Andrew Williston

I have been searching for something similar for some time now as I'm trying to figure out the ins and outs of specimen photography.

I'm excited about finding it and I figured others here would appreciate it as well.

Enjoy!

This is an awesome resource for fish photography.  Thanks for sharing it.

When I first started taking pictures of fish I found I had more trouble taking pictures of the fish in the aquarium because they were moving so much.  Here's a link to a helpful video I found recently on that subject:   https://youtu.be/N8KUxjxNQ1A

Both types of photography come with unique challenges but are both really rewarding when you get a great picture.

Is there any kind of camera you can buy these days, for $100 or less, that is better than an iPhone?  I have a very old phone (possibly the oldest iPhone still in use : )) and don't really want to upgrade until I have to.  My pre iPhone digital camera is not even as good as that.  A casual look around makes me think that the new phones have gutted the market for simple cameras.

The nice thing about NANFA is that you can talk to the premiere fish photographer in the world (Isaac Szabo) and get answers to these things.
