i have had a nice population of h formosa in a 10 gal, planted with valisneria for along time, also contains cherry shrimp and wild trumpet snails, have unsuccessfully tried to keep banded pygmy sunfish before, in my naturally slightly alkaline fl water feeding flake food, just collected some l ommata. I would like to keep these 3 nano fish together. I think the pygmy sunfish are the controlling species, requiring at least slightly acidic , slightly dark water, some small live food, and some cover. Do you think my present 10 gallon can contain them all? Is this a good idea, anything special i need to know about ommata? Will i be able to get enough intank breeding to sustain? all help appreciated, thanks.

I've kept L. ommata in a 10 gallon and I have even kept them with Ellasoma. And it looks nice, and you will get some breeding, but everyone will pretty much get eaten and the population was not sustainable (at least in my experience). I have been very successful with both species separately in 10 gallon tanks, but not so much together. Maybe in a bigger tank?

thanks, what did you feed the ellasama? did you keep water acidic?

No, I never bothered with acidity. But if I did it again I might use some of those leaves to create a tannin stained environment.
