Hey all, just a quick PSA.

It's prime time to be in the waters chasin' our finny interests and I say go after as many of 'em as you can. Just do keep yourselves "bad bug aware". Do what's appropriate and reasonable to protect you and yours, where ever you may be and whateever you may be doing, from ticks.

Just throwing this out there 'cause the last week has not been particularly pleasant for me. The blood work is not back yet, but in all likelihood I am fighting off a case of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. The last couple days have been MUCH better (thank you Doxycycline!), but last Friday through Tuesday were 5 days I wouldn't wish on anyone. Wednesday wasn't much fun, either, but that's when the meds started kicking in.

So keep on doin' whatcha do, just add tick prevention, tick checks, and proper tick removal technique to your routine if appropriate. If you do get bit, don't freak out but know the warning signs and act on them. 'Cause I got a little sloppy, and man, it sucks...

Several years ago I got sick from a tick bite.  It was awful, I felt bad for a good six months. I did go to the doctor as soon as the bite developed the bullseye rash and he did give me antibiotics.  I was still sick.

Check good! These nymph lone star ticks like to go straight towards the private areas! It is not uncommon to get tick bombed and find dozens in those areas. Lone stars also have  much more aggressive mouth parts. They really dig in, and can cause a mild discomfort initially that turns into a full on red meat allergy. No steak for you! Josh B. dug mouth parts out of my back at a gas station somewhere between here and Oklahoma. I have never had a good old fashioned dog tick leave parts behind. And then there are deer ticks. Yuk! Get better Mr. Knepley!

This is a great reminder to always check yourself after each outing.  All it takes is one tick to make your life miserable.
