Hi Folks,

Thanks for reading. Could you help me Id this minnow? It is from southern Alberta, 7cm long, has no round black spot on dorsal fin. Mouth does not open very wide like the typical creek chub's. Not obviously superior or inferior. His some protrusion near anal fin, perhaps a reproductive organ.

Thanks!

Fathead minnow?  Fatheads and Golden shiner are the most common bait-shop minnows.

thanks.  It's not from a baitshop though, it is from a water treatment pond that had been flooded by creeks.

Fathead is likely. If you can get a better photo it will be easier to rule out other possibilities.

I'll need a photo to make a positive ID.  But you will have to do it in your natural habitat until we know for sure that you are not threatened nor endangered!
