What does the tear drop on a banded darter look like? It's listed as an identifying characteristic along with number of bands but I've seen lots of photos of Darters that seem to be on the edge between greenside and banded.

Try going to gallery archive. Look through Uland's gallery. Last page probably has darters. Etheostoma. I know there are many zonale and blennioides photos in there. Male and female. Colored up and not. Might help sort out the differences. Lance, Blake, and Dave Neely probably have a decent amount to view as well..Hope that helps.
