Snow's on the ground and the river's finally down but quite muddy, however, despite fishing blind because the water's opaque, I did have luck catching this darter and some of these minnows, and surprisingly, using only a 4" X 6" aquarium net from the bank. The pool I was netting in was about 4 feet around and 16" deep. I think that the darter is a Johnny and the minnow is some kind of shiner, but not 100% sure of the ID. Help please.

Sorry about the photos, the river water is not optimal.

Thank you kindly

Chris

Muddy water did a number on them. I'll guess johnny darter and spotfin shiner. Those guesses are worth about as much as you paid for them. O:)

Thank you. I *was* going to go again today, but they opened the floodgates again and the river's back up. Next time they close the gates I'll swing by the pond nearby, get some clear water and if I have any luck, try that. It should be the same temperature and not shock the fish.

Our river is the release for the lake and they've had the gates open for 1.5 months now because of all of the water we've had. Frustrating.....
