I took my son out today with me to where I go to catch my fish for one last catch before this bitter cold drops down and freezes things up. He wanted to see where I go and how I catch my fish for the tank. When we got there, the river's way up, about 5' deeper than it is normally and extremely fast. Despite that, we caught a nice sub-adult spotfin shiner, about 15 tiny spotfin fry and what looks like a snubnose minnow with the dark side stripe. As we walked the bank we saw many dead and dying gizzard shad of varying sizes. I guess that these fish do not handle environmental/temperature changes very well due to the large number of them we saw.

Lastly, the huge breaker stones on the bank that you can see in the photo, most are limestone, but one huge piece that was about a bit bigger than a bath tub was granite and it had a cool strata bed of white granite splitting it in half. I can only imagine the geological processes of nature that it took to form such a unique stone. Too bad it weighs around a ton. It would look nice in the front yard.

Bluntnose minnow (Pimephales notatus) is what you have there. They do fine in aquaria though that one looks like more of a snack for your green sunfish.

Thanks Jason, Yeah, either the sunfish or the stonecat will get the small ones including the bluntnose. However, I have a 3" bluntnose in the tank now that I've had since it was about 2" long, and in my other tank, there's two others that are now 1 1/2" and 2" long that I have had since they were 1" long. They seem to be a finicky eater and don't really care for flake food.
