Considering that these spotfin shiners, stonerollers and bluntnose minnows were all wild in the river a or so month ago, they absolutely destroy flake food. So if you like easy to care for/feed fish, spotfins and the others will do it for you. These fish were taking flake food within 30 minutes after capture.

I'd recommend feeding them both blood worms and color enhancing flakes. (if you can't feed them the blood worms get some raw shrimp & blend it ((you'd need to peel it first)) get a cube tray, add the blended shrimp with some water, now your darters & shiners both have their own fozen foods) Other then that they look great. ((I might even get some for myself some day))

Actually, they do eat blood worms as well. The shiners and other minnows are ravenous eaters. Even after they eat flakes, when I feed the darters, they hit the worms too. So I feed about 4 cubes of blood worms in the evening. Within 15 minutes, not a blood worm left to be seen anywhere on the bottom. They also inhale nightcrawlers that I cut up into tiny pieces and Mysis shrimp. So they all eat everything I feed them with exception of the darters and flakes. The darters won't touch em.

If you get a chance, get some spotfins if they're where you're at. I really like the spotfin specie.
