I'm not a NANFA member, but am interesting in finding places near Houston where I can collect native species.
I hope everyone is doing well

I have collected some cool native species on the San Jacinto river south of Conroe. McDade park is located extremely close to this river and has excellent access. The San Jacinto has a very sandy bottom and is relatively shallow. It's great for seining, cast netting, and even angling. I remember catching at least one species of darter, a few minnow species, tadpole and freckled madtoms, and various sunfish.
This wasn't very long after Harvey so we found some monster grass carp and hybrid striper that had gotten washed out of Lake Conroe too. Doubt if they're still there though.
Hope this helps! I'm sure there are lots of small streams in the area that are filled with interesting fish. I have heard rumors that Brays Bayou holds some interesting species as well.
