The NCWRC Aquatic Wildlife Diversity Program is responsible for monitoring population status, conducting and directing conservation-focused research, and conservation management actions for non-game fishes, mollusks, and crustaceans and their habitats. Theposition will assist the Eastern Region Biologists with surveying and monitoring populations of federal and state endangered, threatened, and rare freshwater species. Responsibilities will include field sampling (70%), aquaculture (10%), sample analysis (10%), data entry (5%), and administrative support (5%). The work area will primarily be in the Tar-Pamlico, and Neuse river basins in North Carolina. The position will begin July 1 and end November 30 2019. Work hours are not standard due to travel and thenature of the field work. Work weeks in excess of 40 hours and overnight stays of up to 4 nights per week should be expected.The duty station will be located in Alamance Countyat Sykes Depot. The W/F Technician I is a Salary Grade 63, with a salary of$14.83/hr.Social Security, state, and federal income taxes will be deducted by the Wildlife Resources Commission. Necessary equipment will be provided and lodging and meals will be reimbursed when overnight stays are required.Aquatic field survey skills, taxonomic skills, physical strength and endurance, good swimming ability, and canoeing and boating skills are required. SCUBA diving certification is preferred. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Graduation from a college or university with a degree in wildlife or fisheries management, zoology, biology, or similar field is required (two year degree is required; four-year degree is preferred).
