I was given this green sunny by the LFS back in mid March. He was about 1.5 inches long and very plain looking. Now that he's almost 4 inches long, I am amazed at how heavily blued he is. I cannot ever recall seeing another green sunfish with this much blue speckling on it. I also think it's a male judging by it's white/yellow pelvic fins and white trim along all other fins. Simply gorgeous! Has anyone else had a green that was extremely blue?

I've seen some variation.  Here, a lot of the green sunfish have blue-green or blue-gray bodies with abundant blue flecks.  The scientific name "cyanellus" means blue after all.

Thanks for the info, Willie. All of the ones I have had before have had blue speckles, but never this dense.
