It has happened again.  I caught another new fish without actually fishing.  I caught this fish below in 2014 and thought it was a Round Scad.  Never gave it a 2nd thought.  However, 5 years later I have randomly realized this is probably a Rough Scad (Trachurus lathami).  Looking for confirmation I'm right while also showing off my improving ID skills.

This was caught on Long Island.  The 4 Scad species that can be found on LI are: Round Scad, Rough Scad, Mackerel Scad, and Bigeye Scad.

Some ID features of Rough Scad from internet:

-Main lateral line with scutes along its entire length (total 61-77), although anterior scutes are often obscured with smaller scales

-Dark spot above eye

-lateral line with distinct downward curve below 2nd dorsal fin

-no spots pattern on lateral line like the Round Scad.

I think above zig zag pattern are the scutes , this is pic of anterior of lateral line, look still large in the front like description says.

also from pictures, the Round Scad bottom fins are further apart than Rough Scad.  This pic below shows them closer together like the Rough Scad

dudes I received no confirmation, but really it doesnt matter does it....for I ID'd the living **** out of this fish.  It may have taken 5 years, but this was high level ID work.  Roughest Scad I've ever seen.  This post may signify that I am now ready to take Piscatorial ID matters into my hands

I wish I had something to add, but saltwater is way out of bounds for me. It looks like you have it pinned down pretty well.
